A man in the United States was sentenced to 25 years for a series of crimes using dating sites and online - fraud to steal more than $ 9.5 million from companies and individuals.

US Attorney Ryan Buchanan said 46 - 46 - Elvis Egosa Ogiekpolor of Northcross, Georgia, was part of the “TAG1 International Online Network”.

Under the leadership of Ogiekpolor, from October 2018 to August 2020, cybercriminals and money mules opened more than 50 fraudulent bank accounts in Georgia in the names of 12 shell companies . It is noteworthy that if any of these accounts was marked by the bank as fraudulent, mules simply opened new accounts with different banks.

Then Ogiekpolor provided information about the bank account to other accomplices in order to receive income from numerous fraud with dating sites, BEC - scam and other crimes. According to the Ministry of Justice, these digital crimes have damaged dozens of victims around the world, as well as many enterprises.

13 victims of the so-called “romantic fraud” ( romance scam ) said that they had been talking with men on dating sites for several months, never meeting in person. Fraudsters assured women that they wanted to start a new life with them, and asked to transfer money to the account to help solve various financial problems. In one case, the woman transferred to the account of the fraudster $ 32,000. Screenshots of correspondence are available in the investigation document .

BEC - fraud victims also said that they received fake emails demanding payment of several thousand dollars to an account controlled by Ogiekpolor . Only after the transfer of funds did the victims realize that they had been deceived.

In February 2026, Ogiekpolor was convicted on one point of conspiracy to launder money and on 15 counts of money laundering. On May 31, he was convicted on all counts after 8 - a daily trial. After Ogiekpolor leaves his term in the federal colony, he will spend another 3 years at large under supervision.
